Grodman Scholarship for Short Cultural and Language Immersion Stays in Guadalajara - Extension

 

The Grodman Legacy through The University of Guadalajara Foundation in the United States of America, Inc. and the University of Guadalajara:

 

INVITE

To students and graduates of Universities/Colleges in the United States of America who wish to enrich their educational process through the participation in a short academic stay of cultural immersion and Spanish language at the University of Guadalajara, with a duration of one week during the school year 2023 A (from March 27 to April 2, 2023), according to the following:

 

RULES

1. Support will be provided to a maximum of 10 students for a one-week stay (from March 27 to April 2, 2023), during the 2023 A school year.
2. The specific amounts assigned to the grants will depend on budget availability, in accordance with the criteria determined by the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust Fund.
3. The grants will consist of various benefits provided by the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust through The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA.
   Such benefits include:
   • Enrollment fees
   • Meals
   • Lodging
   • International insurance
   • Air transportation
   • Ground transportation
   • Academic and/or work materials

 

OBJECTIVE

The selected students will stay in Mexico for a period of one week, and during which, under the coordination of the College of Spanish and Mexican Culture, they will carry out various activities corresponding to a program of Mexican culture and civilization where they will identify the historical, artistic, social and gastronomic manifestations that make up the Mexican culture.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Academic GPA.
• Reasons for the stay and its academic impact.
• Benefits that the stay will bring to the candidate's academic training.
• Academic and work history and recognition of the candidate.
• Spanish language proficiency equivalent to A2- B1 level. [1]

 

REQUIREMENTS

• Be a student or graduate (no more than five years after graduation) of any university/college in the United States of America.
• To have a letter of support for the stay, issued by his/her home university/college. This letter must state the approval of the university/college in case the dates of the stay interfere with the student's school calendar. (This requirement only applies to regular students at U.S. universities/colleges; it does not apply to graduates).
• Be a regular undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum overall average of B (equivalent to 85 at the University of Guadalajara).
• Dedicate full time to the academic stay.
• Have a command of the Spanish language equivalent to A2 or B1 level.
• Copy of the international insurance policy, which includes the coverage of Annex 1 and covers the duration of the stay (in case of being pre-accepted).

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Stage 1. Registration and file integration.

1. The candidate must register through the online system http://www.ci.cgai.udg.mx/beca-grodman-estancias-cortas-en-gdl-registro. 2.
2. The dossier, in pdf, must contain the following documentation:
   • a. Application for financial support (form available at http://www.ci.cgai.udg.mx/beca-grodman-estancias-cortas-en-gdl/solicitud-de-apoyo ).
   • b. Letter of support issued by your home institution.
   • c. Copy of passport valid for at least six months after the end of the stay.
   • d. Copy of proof of permanent address in force in the United States (not older than 2 months), with the possibility of presenting a receipt for electricity, water or telephone.
   • h. Copy of the student's credential from the university/college of origin or proof that the student is enrolled in the university/college of origin.
   • i. Letter of motivation addressed to the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust (maximum length of two pages).
   • j. Curriculum Vitae in Spanish (maximum of two pages).

Notes:

• Incomplete dossiers will not be accepted.

• Late applications will not be accepted.

Stage 2: Pre-selection

• The Internationalization Coordination (CI) will receive and review the candidates' dossiers, in order to validate that they meet the requirements of this invitation.
• The IC will make a pre-selection of candidates who have complied with the established requirements and have complete documentation.
• The IC will issue an official notice with the list of approved candidates for the granting of support.
• The Technical Committee of the Grodman Trust will issue a report with the results.
• In order to receive the support, students who are pre-selected must comply with the follow-up instructions issued by the CI.
• The results will be final.

Stage 3. Delivery of complementary documentation (pre-selected)

After receiving the pre-selection notification, the candidate must submit the complementary documents in order to receive the support.

• a. Copy of the international insurance policy, including the coverages in Annex 1.
• b. Letter of commitment of academic compliance, duly signed (format available at http://www.ci.cgai.udg.mx/beca-grodman-estancias-cortas-en-gdl/carta-compromiso ).
• c. Additional documentation required during the selection process, as established by The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA.

IMPORTANT

• It is necessary to submit the international insurance policy that complies with the provisions of Annex 1 in order to receive official confirmation of acceptance.
• Failure to comply in due time and form with the provisions of this stage will result in the ineligibility for support.

Stage 4. Acceptance

Candidates who comply in due time and form with the requirements of stage 4 will receive official confirmation of their acceptance through a document issued by the CI.

IMPORTANT

• It is essential to complete the online registration and attach the documents correctly, otherwise the application will not be considered for the selection process.
• Accepted candidates must submit the documentation of stage 4 (supplementary documentation) in order to be eligible for support.
• In case of cancellation, the participant must communicate the situation immediately by e-mail to the Internationalization Coordination Office and to The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA.

 

INVITATION SCHEDULE

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

In the event of being awarded a scholarship, the grantee will have the following rights and obligations:

• Receive free of charge all the information required of the processes.
• To issue, if necessary, any additional clarification required by the members of the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust.
• Receive all the required information of the processes.
• Receive dignified and respectful treatment.
• Receive equitable and non-discriminatory treatment.
• Receive information regarding the status of their applications, and if applicable, the reasons for non-acceptance of this when requested by the interested party.

 

SANCTIONS AND CANCELLATION CLAUSES

The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA may cancel or revoke scholarships awarded to those who have failed to comply with the requirements and guidelines established herein and other applicable legal provisions. In this regard, the following sanctions may be applied at the discretion of the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust:

• Annul the support granted.
• Disqualify him/her from applying as beneficiary(ies) of the Grodman Legacy activities.

Any applicant or beneficiary who, at any time, presents false information or apocryphal documentation, or who alters documents or omits information, will be added to a list of applicants and scholarship recipients in default that will be made public on the web page of The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA, in addition to losing the right to participate in any other program or support granted by the Grodman Legacy.

 

EQUITY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION

The selection of recipients of support is carried out through competitive, efficient, equitable, transparent and public procedures, based on merit and quality; the support granted is subject to evaluation, selection, formalization and follow-up processes, in terms of the regulatory framework that corresponds to each program. Therefore, based on Article 1°, fifth paragraph of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, as well as Article 1°, section III, and Article 9, section I, of the Federal Law to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination, The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA is obliged not to discriminate against applicants, avoiding any discriminatory practice that has the purpose or effect of preventing or nullifying the recognition or exercise of rights and real equality of opportunities.

 

COMPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS

• The selection process for the Grodman Short-Stay Academic Scholarship Program begins with the publication of this announcement and concludes with the publication of the results.
• The beneficiaries must sign the scholarship application and the corresponding letter of commitment in the formats established in this call, as well as any legal instrument required by The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA in order to receive the scholarship.
• The mere fact of submitting applications for this scholarship implies, on the part of the applicants, the acceptance of the requirements and commitments established in this call for applications.
• The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA, through the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust, will support and supervise at all times the development of the present competition.
• The decisions made by The University of Guadalajara Foundation-USA and the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust are final.
• Any circumstance not foreseen in the call for proposals will be resolved by the Technical Committee of the Pyrrha Gladys Grodman Educational Trust.
